Release of v0.2!


Hey there! How's it going, everybody? It's been a while! Turns out: making a game is a lot of work. But it's finally time for an update!

An important thing of note: this will likely be the last version with a web version available. The reason for this is that the game's starting to get too big to serve over the web like this. However, this version will still stay up as a way for people to give the game a try without having to download anything!

Now here come the Patch Notes:

In short, the most exciting stuff:

  • MacOS builds!
  • Added customizable Content Warning settings
  • A time of day system.
  • Fat Burn (weight loss) mechanic.
  • 6 new locations.
  • 2 new Opponents.
  • New card type (BUFF) and statuses mechanic.
  • Mulligans!
  • Clothing Options!
  • Money and Item systems.
  • More character customization options.
  • More bespoke touchscreen controls for Android.
  • Music: Overworld music, and dynamic battle music.

Now let's go through these in more detail (Potential content spoilers ahead!).
If you like reading patch notes as much as I do, this one's for you!

Content:

  • New locations: Gym, Pub, Park, Barbershop, General Store and Fishing Plains.
  • 2 new Opponents: Beau and Darwin.
  • Some plotlines featuring new characters.
  • A short bit for the next segment in the main story.
  • New cards!

Gameplay Additions:

  • Added a bonus menu for Patreon supporters which includes a Free Battle Mode, Character Viewing Screen and "Nude Mode" which hides clothing during battles.
  • Added BUFF(White) type cards and status system to battles.
  • Added mulligans to battles: at the start of a battle, you can choose to shuffle your hand back into your deck and draw a new hand with one less card. You can do this until you only have one card.
  • Added Clothing system + Eyewear + Hats.
  • Added Money and Items + An Inventory system.
  • Added music to battles and overworld. Battles feature 3 songs that ramp up as the weight progresses.
  • Added the Fat Burn (weight loss) mechanic.
  • Added the barbershop with more hairstyle options.
  • Added the gym's Exercise minigame.
  • Added a Fishing minigame.
  • Added a Jogging minigame.
  • Added a General Store where the player can buy clothes, accessories and items.
  • Materials now appear scattered around the map and spawning periodically.

Quality of Life/Miscellaneous:

  • For the Android version: Added actual touchscreen friendly controls.
    • During battle, tapping a card will only enlarge it. To use a card, drag it upwards. Same for Discarding a card.
    • in the Deck Editor, tapping a card first selects it and shows its preview. Consecutive taps will add/remove it.
    • Fixed scrolling in many places.
  • Added customizable Content Warning settings
    • You can disables themes you don't like. They will either be omitted if possible, or you will get a warning before seeing such content.
  • Added Objectives to the Status Window
  • Added a dialogue log.
  • Added a "Larger Card Zoom" option that enlarges cards more.
  • Added a "Game Rules" option in Pause Menu that shows a recap of the card game rules.
  • Added some more save slots (4->7). And you didn't even have to pay for it!

Visuals:

  • Added a custom cursor
  • Added small animations to stats during battles and updated some fonts.
  • Updated some of the card illustrations.

Customization:

  • More skin tones in character customization
  • Added Barbershop with more hair options than in the initial character creator.

Gameplay changes:

  • Changed Tom's Deck.
  • Changed Vernon's Deck.
  • Tweaked enemy AI.

Dialogue/Text:

  • Fixed some typos.
  • Rewrote and added some small details to existing dialogue.
  • More dialogue for new content, duh.

Enjoyed it so far, only found two battles in v0.2, would love an option to split your save and continue playing after you run out of days (with the caveat that the save file would not be compatible with the next version of course). Can't wait to play the next version!

Gosh this game. AMAZING. Looking forward to see. I didn't get any more battles, except the one in the forest. But I suppose because I lost after that there was not so much to do. Even if it's mentioned there are more battles ahead of me.

There is actually a way to beat both battles even in the current build for Vernon use cards that give you weight for extra bonuses I ended up using a pretty big amount of cards in my deck to beat him.

There are two more opponents available after the encounter in the forest regardless of if you win or lose (it just takes more work to find them!)
